Chapter 357 – Damaged Heart

Luo Wei collapsed into someone’s arms. For a moment, he thought it was Wei Lan’s embrace, but when he turned around and saw Long Xuan’s face, he wondered why this person had come.

“Where does it hurt?” Long Xuan asked urgently, without paying attention to Luo Wei’s changing expression.

“You —” Luo Wei’s chest hurt terribly this time. His face turned pale, and he pressed his hand harder on his chest.

Long Xuan was aware of Luo Wei’s previous heart condition. Seeing Luo Wei clutching his chest without relief, he immediately realized that Luo Wei’s heart might be acting up again. “The Imperial Physician, summon the physician!” he shouted to the eunuchs who had rushed into the room.

Luo Wei wanted to break free from Long Xuan’s embrace, but he felt powerless at the moment.

Long Xuan lifted Luo Wei, finding him surprisingly light. “What are you trying to do?” Luo Wei asked.

Long Xuan placed Luo Wei on the bed, pulled the covers over him, and said, “Don’t talk if your chest hurts! At this time, just take care of yourself!”

Luo Wei’s chest pain usually only lasted for a while, so he just had to bear it and it would be fine. He hadn’t expected it to persist for such a long time. Feeling breathless with his chest tight, he found it difficult to argue with Long Xuan.

“Where is the physician?” Long Xuan saw Luo Wei gasping for air with his mouth open, and his face turning blue. He was so anxious that he shouted outside the room, “Where is he? Why isn’t he here yet?”

Luo Wei shrank on the bed. He found Long Xuan’s voice extremely harsh in his ears, and it only made the pain in his heart more unbearable.

Long Xuan pulled Luo Wei into his arms and removed Luo Wei’s hand from his chest. He then massaged Luo Wei’s chest, his strength better than Luo Wei’s, and he even transferred some internal energy to Luo Wei.

Luo Wei did not accept Long Xuan’s kindness. Seeing Long Xuan like this, he didn’t know where the strength came from and pushed Long Xuan away with all his strength, shouting, “Stay away from me!”

At this moment, Long Xuan couldn’t tolerate Luo Wei’s stubbornness. He was pushed back for a moment but quickly regained his balance, keeping Luo Wei in his arms and transferring his internal energy to Luo Wei’s body. “Can’t you lose your temper later?” he said. “You can’t even catch your breath now. Why are you trying to be so strong?”

Luo Wei bit his lip, refusing to shout in pain before Long Xuan.

“Don’t bite your lip!” Long Xuan forcibly inserted a finger into Luo Wei’s mouth.

Luo Wei bit Long Xuan’s finger, venting his frustration.

Long Xuan didn’t feel the pain, and Luo Wei couldn’t bite his finger off. If his finger was missing a piece of flesh, he wouldn’t die. He focused on transferring his internal energy to Luo Wei’s body. While Wei Lan’s internal energy was more gentle and feminine, Long Xuan had practiced orthodox pure yang techniques since childhood. His internal energy made Luo Wei feel more comfortable, but his resistance to Long Xuan psychologically prevented him from feeling the warmth and comfort inside his body.

The physician ran all the way.

“Come and check on him,” Long Xuan didn’t bother with formalities. When he saw the physician, he instructed, “His heart was injured before. Check him to see if it’s acting up again.”

The physician hurried over to examine Luo Wei’s pulse.

“No need,” Luo Wei felt slightly better and tried to pull his hand away from the physician’s grip. “I’m fine now.”

Long Xuan pressed Luo Wei’s hand down and ordered the physician, “Check his pulse.” Seeing Luo Wei about to speak again, he covered Luo Wei’s mouth.

Luo Wei had struggled to breathe earlier, his face turning blue. Being controlled by Long Xuan’s hands was even more unbearable for him than being controlled by Sima Qingsha.

“Your Highness, please calm down,” the physician pleaded with Luo Wei. This man was so angry that he couldn’t even diagnose the correct pulse.

“I’ve said it before. Once you’re better, can we go back to the capital faster?” Long Xuan asked Luo Wei. “Or are you planning to recuperate here indefinitely?”

When Long Xuan said this, Luo Wei stopped moving, and turned his head to the side bitterly.

The Imperial Physician wiped the sweat from his brow before examining Luo Wei’s pulse.

“Are you alright?” Luo Wei waited patiently for the physician for a while. Seeing the physician just placed two fingers on his pulse without moving or speaking, and his face showing no expression, Luo Wei couldn’t help but ask.

The physician was startled, causing his fingers resting on Luo Wei’s pulse to twitch.

“How is he?” Long Xuan now appeared more amiable than Luo Wei.

The physician nervously asked Luo Wei, “Your Highness, how long have you been experiencing chest pain and tightness?”

Before Luo Wei could respond, Long Xuan, afraid that Luo Wei wouldn’t tell the truth, interjected, “Do you need me to remind you of the consequences of concealing illness and avoiding medical treatment?”

“I often feel this way,” Luo Wei, still avoiding looking at Long Xuan, said to the physician. “Every time, the pain will go away after a while.”

“Have you taken any medicine?” the physician inquired urgently.

“No, I’m able to move around. Why would I need medicine?” Luo Wei replied.

“Did Wei Lan not notice that you were feeling unwell?” Long Xuan now shifted the blame to Wei Lan.

Luo Wei glanced at Long Xuan. Could this man be any more ridiculous? “What does this have to do with Wei Lan?” he asked.

Long Xuan felt a lump in his throat. Luo Wei’s heart was damaged because of him, blaming Wei Lan made no sense. “How is he? Is it serious?” Long Xuan stopped talking about Wei Lan and asked the physician about Luo Wei’s condition.

After some thought, the physician said, “Your Highness needs to rest and avoid stressing yourself further.”

Hearing this, both Long Xuan and Luo Wei had the same thought: saying that was as good as not saying anything at all.

“Don’t you need to prescribe medicine?” Long Xuan asked the physician sternly. “Are you just going to let him suffer like this?”

The physician had come to Xuanzhou precisely because he was skilled at treating external injuries, but treating Luo Wei’s internal heart condition was not his specialty. After some thought, he said to Long Xuan, “I will administer acupuncture to His Highness for half an hour each day to ensure the smooth flow of blood vessels in his body, thereby reducing the frequency of chest pain.”

“Will this cure him?”

“After returning to the capital, it would be better to ask Master Wei to take a look at the Prince again,” the ‘Master Wei” the physician referred to was the current Chief Imperial Physician.

Long Xuan understood from the physician’s words that there was no easy solution to Luo Wei’s condition.

Upon hearing the physician mention Chief Physician Wei, Luo Wei suddenly spoke up, “I heard that when the late Emperor passed away, Chief Physician Wei was the one who stood by his bedside, right?”

Long Xuan confirmed, “Yes, the late Emperor trusted his medical skills the most, so naturally, he was the one by his side.”

A mocking smile played at the corner of Luo Wei’s lips as he said to Long Xuan, “Are you still daring enough to let Chief Physician Wei treat my illness? Aren’t you afraid he might say something to me?”
