Chapter 304 – Will We Meet Again?

“What’s going on?!” A group of night patrol officers blocked the path of Luo Wei and the other two.

“Wait for me,” whispered Wei Lan to Luo Wei, and then he placed Luo Wei under a pergola at the side of the street.

“Who are you people?” The leader of the patrolmen asked loudly, “It’s late at night, where are you going?”

Luo Wei covered Yan’er’s eyes and whispered, “Don’t look.”

“What are you up to?!” The patrolmen shouted angrily.

Watching Wei Lan kill, Luo Wei thought that although he was not as swift as Mo Huan Sang, it was enough to prevent anyone from escaping under his sword.

“Highness Gege?” Yan’er listened to the clashing of weapons and the sound of heavy objects falling to the ground. She was so frightened that she crawled into Luo Wei’s arms.

“Don’t be afraid if you can’t see it,” Luo Wei comforted Yan’er softly. “Don’t be afraid, I am here.”

When the frightening sounds disappeared and the hand covering her eyes was removed, Yan’er opened her eyes to see bodies everywhere, blood mingling with rainwater, forming a river. Yan’er exclaimed and hid back in Luo Wei’s embrace.

“Young Master,” Wei Lan sheathed the murderous sword in his hand and walked to Luo Wei.

“It’s okay, Yan’er,” Luo Wei continued to comfort Yan’er, who refused to come out from hiding in his arms.

“Should we take her with us?” Wei Lan asked Luo Wei.

Luo Wei gently pushed Yan’er away from his embrace and asked her, “Has your mother ever told you to leave the palace to find someone?”

Yan’er glanced at Luo Wei and bit her lip.

“She must have told you, right?”

Yan’er nodded and said, “I’m sorry, Highness Gege.”

“Your mother cares for you so much, she must have made arrangements for you,” Luo Wei didn’t blame Yan’er for not telling him the truth. This kind of thing, Auntie Hu must have repeatedly warned Yan’er not to tell others.

“Highness Gege, Yan’er wants to go with you,” Yan’er said to Luo Wei.

Luo Wei looked at Wei Lan.

Wei Lan shook his head. This was He Fangcheng; how could he possibly take Luo Wei and Yan’er out?

“Highness Gege has escaped,” Luo Wei said to Yan’er when he saw Wei Lan shaking his head. “Yan’er saw it too. We killed many people along the way. The Emperor won’t let me off.”

“Then what should Highness Gege do?” Yan’er became anxious. “Are you running away?”

“I don’t know if I can escape,” Luo Wei said. “Yan’er, go find the person your mother told you about, and return to Great Zhou.”

Yan’er grabbed Luo Wei’s sleeve. “Highness Gege, come with me!”

“If I go, and lead the pursuers to you, what then?”

“What should we do?” Yan’er cried in distress.

“Yan’er, I promise you, if Senior Wei and I manage to escape, I will definitely go to Great Zhou to find you,” Luo Wei comforted Yan’er.

“But how will Highness Gege know where Yan’er is?” Yan’er asked.

“If it’s meant to be, we will meet again,” Wei Lan also squatted down and comforted Yan’er. “As long as we’re still alive.”

Yan’er looked at Wei Lan, her face suddenly turning red.

“You silly girl,” Luo Wei said, “You always wanted to see what Senior Wei looks like. Now that you’ve seen him, why are you blushing?”

“Highness Gege,” Yan’er shook Luo Wei’s sleeve. “Can’t I really go with you?”

“Your mother worked so hard to keep you alive,” Luo Wei said. “I can’t put you in danger.”

Yan’er had been with Luo Wei for neraly two years. Seeing that he still hadn’t relented, she knew Luo Wei wouldn’t take her. “Highness Gege, you must live to find Yan’er,” Yan’er made one final request to Luo Wei.

“Alright,” Luo Wei agreed readily.

“Do you know the way?” Wei Lan asked carefully.

“My mother told me,” Yan’er said.

“Yan’er,” Luo Wei pulled Yan’er closer again and said, “Can you just tell people that you took advantage of the chaos in the palace to escape on your own?”

“Highness Gege?”

“I’m a criminal in Great Zhou too,” Luo Wei said. “It’s not good if others know my whereabouts. Yan’er, if you really consider me your brother, then don’t tell anyone about me and Senior Wei. Just pretend that you have never seen us.”

“Yan’er won’t say anything,” Yan’er quickly said. “Yan’er won’t tell anyone.”

“You take this money,” Wei Lan handed a silver note to Yan’er.

“I don’t want it,” Yan’er hurriedly declined and refused to take it.

“Take it,” Luo Wei took the silver note from Wei Lan’s hand without even looking at the amount. He folded it into thirds and stuffed it into the small purse around Yan’er’s waist. “From now on, you’re on your own. Take care of yourself. As a young girl, don’t let yourself be easily deceived by others.”

Wiping her tears, Yan’er glanced at Luo Wei and Wei Lan before running ahead.

“Is she going to be alright on her own?” Wei Lan hugged Luo Wei and asked.

“Who would suspect a young girl?” Luo Wei said. Being hugged by Wei Lan, he wanted to take his hand out from under the blanket wrapped around him. He wanted to touch Wei Lan’s face.

“It’s cold outside,” Wei Lan hurriedly said. “Is the Young Master cold?”

“It’s not cold,” Luo Wei said, and obediently stopped moving.

“What about that girl?” Wei Lan asked. “Is she reliable? Young Master, if not, should we deal with her?”

“Forget it,” Luo Wei said. “I owe her family more than a hundred lives. Let’s spare her.”

“How did the Young Master meet this girl?”

“She…” Luo Wei suddenly remembered Luo Qi, who had been killed by the letter from Aunt Hu. He quickly said, “Lan, my eldest brother…”

“Let’s find a place to shelter from the rain,” Wei Lan saw Luo Wei getting excited again and quickly said, “Young Master, rest assured, Eldest Young Master is fine, he’s still alive.”

“What did you say?!” Luo Wei exclaimed. Was he really dreaming tonight? Eldest Brother didn’t die?

“Young Master, trust me,” Wei Lan said. “Let’s rest and talk. This matter is hard to explain. Eldest Young Master really didn’t die, he’s just injured.”

“Where are you taking me?” Luo Wei asked.

“Out of the city,” Wei Lan said.

“The city gates are closed at this hour. How could we get out?” Luo Wei said in disbelief.

“If Sima Qingsha finds out that the Young Master is missing, he’ll definitely seal the four gates of the city. By then, it’ll be impossible for us to leave,” Wei Lan explained.

“What about Mo Huan Sang?” Luo Wei asked.

“He will go out through the east gate, and we will take the south gate,” Wei Lan said. “Brother Mo will lead the main forces away, and his men will be waiting to assist us at the south gate. Young Master, don’t worry.”

Luo Wei buried his head in Wei Lan’s chest and said, “Are you going to kill again?”

“If I can’t avoid it, I will,” Wei Lan said casually. “The Young Master is disgusted by bloodshed. He should just close his eyes. Wei Lan Lan will definitely take the Young Master out of He Fangcheng.”

Yan’er hid at a corner, watching Wei Lan holding Luo Wei and walking past her quickly. Yan’er cried silently. Her mother was gone, and now Highness Gege was leaving with Senior Wei. Would she ever see them again?
